I'm Lee, Lee Clay. I've got my own decorating business: LDC Decorators.
I've worked for myself for 4 years now, I worked for my Dad for 5 years before then.
A lot of my work is reputation, I get a lot of work from handing cards out and a lot of it is word of mouth.
The best thing about working for yourself is obviously being your own boss, picking and choosing your hours. Feeling in control.
Two bad things have happened in the last year. A business that owes me money that haven't paid me as yet and I don't think I'm going to get it. And the other bad thing is my van getting broken into. Up till now they are the only two things.
I definitely need insurance because we're in and out of people’s houses all the time. We're up and down ladders all the time. We need insurance in case of people falling, in case we break anything in people's homes. So yes, insurance is important.
As I was saying I've been going for years and I've got men who work for me, long may it continue and hopefully we'll become bigger and more vans on the road and a big business.
Lee run's a reputation based family business. He likes the sense of control he gets from being self employed but at the same time knows he needs to push himself to do the best work as his livelihood relies on positive word of mouth. His insurance cover gives him peace of mind and has already helped him in recent years when his Van was broken into.
