The Government has announced a £151.5 million investment package for the advanced manufacturing sector.
The measures are designed to help manufacturers who use a high level of design or scientific skills to benefit from emerging technologies.
As well as significant investment into aerospace, low-carbon aircraft and display technology projects, the plan includes a £4 million expansion of the Manufacturing Advisory Service, which offers free or subsidised support to small businesses.
Some £500,000 will also be put towards the development of a silicon design centre in the south west.
Business Secretary Peter Mandelson said: "This practical package of measures will help equip British manufacturers, of all sizes and sectors, to take advantage of the advanced technologies and new market opportunities now shaping our low-carbon industrial future.
"It's about giving them the support they need to create jobs in Britain and export the best of British manufacturing design, technology, skills and innovation around the world."
Whilst welcoming the investment package, Adam Marshall from the British Chambers of Commerce said: "Growth in high-tech manufacturing and exports will only come together with a business environment that allows high-value manufacturing companies to thrive.
"Over the next decade, the challenge will be to get tax and regulation right, while sustaining investment in infrastructure and skills to support business growth."
