A small number of UK employers have been flummoxed by an HMRC slip-up, which saw German children's stories distributed in place of payroll software.</p.
The error, thought to have resulted from a labelling mistake at a CD publishing contractor, resulted in "a few hundred" copies of the biannual HMRC Employer Bulletin being shipped with the audio disc.
According to a report on The Register, the slip-up occurred at High-Wycombe-based Software Logistics. Managing director Barry Hurley explained that the HMRC software label had been printed on the story discs.
"It's of course regrettable and we are working with HMRC to ensure replacements are sent out as soon as possible," he added.
An HMRC spokeswoman told the website that the department contracted out the CDs to reduce costs, "although the buck stops with us".
She advised businesses that had received the audio disc to call the helpline.
