Ofgem, the gas and electricity regulator, has promised to put an end to the "really terrible" treatment suffered by small businesses at the hands of their power suppliers.
Ofgem's chief executive, Alistair Buchanan, has threatened energy companies with "dreadful trouble" if they failed to put an end to unfair pricing and improve tariff transparency, the Times reports.
According to FT.com, the regulator will set out a raft of new measures in February, designed to help SMEs who had been so "woefully served" by their power companies in the past.
In Ofgem's detailed plans, energy companies will be required to give business customers their contract in writing and there will be an official website to help compare tariffs.
