Employers urged to register for £100 tax sweetener
The taxman is again offering a £100 tax-free payment to small firms who return their PAYE forms online.
The scheme was launched last year to encourage businesses with fewer than 50 employees to submit their Employer Annual Return via the web.
A spokesperson for HMRC told More Than Business News that although many firms will not have their records ready until after the end of the tax year, those new to the online service can get set up now.
Anyone who has not previously filed their PAYE returns online needs to register for access. Typically it takes about seven working days to receive a user ID and an activation PIN.
The £100 can either be claimed against the following year's liability or requested as a cheque from HMRC. The deadline for the Employer Annual Return for 2007/8 is 19 May 2008.
