Government small business support 'less popular'
The government's Business Link advice service is used by just 6% of new small businesses, official figures have revealed.
The Annual Survey of Small Businesses' Opinions, produced by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), asked almost 10,000 small businesses about their needs and concerns.
The results show that just one-in-four entrepreneurs sought general advice in the 12 months before the survey, which was conducted between November 2006 and February 2007.
Commenting on the figures, editor of BusinessZone.co.uk Dan Martin said that the government had a lot of work to do to win around small business owners.
"While it must be acknowledged that the information and guidance provided by official support bodies like Business Link is useful, when many small business owners think support, they don't think government," he said.
