SME recycling support slashed
A scheme to fund organisations that provide recycling to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) has been abandoned, just four months after it was introduced.
The Funding Support Scheme for Recycling Services to Businesses was introduced to boost the green options for SMEs, by supporting groups that offer them recycling services.
The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), which introduced the scheme in October 2007, says that it has had to close it after Defra slashed 30% off its budget.
Quoted on Letsrecycle.com, WRAP director for business growth Steve Creed said: "Unfortunately, due to cuts in our funding we have taken the decision to withdraw the funding scheme."
In a statement,WRAP added: "WRAP has taken the decision to focus its support and funding on continuing to create the pull through for good quality recyclables. This will primarily be through our work to support the UK recycling and reprocessing industry."
