No charges for self-defence shopkeeper
A shopkeeper who survived an attempted armed robbery will not face charges over the death of his assailant, Lancashire police have announced.
Thirty-four year old Tony Singh, who runs the Lifestyle Express store in Skelmersdale, was attacked in his car on Sunday 17 February.
During what police say was a "lengthy struggle", Mr Singh was knifed in the neck and back. However, his attacker, 25-year-old Liam Kilroe, received a single stab wound to the chest from his own weapon and died on the scene.
At the time of the incident, Mr Kilroe was being sought by police to face charges of attempted robbery.
Senior investigating officer Det Supt Mick Gradwell welcomed the Crown Prosecution Service's decision not to press charges.
"I would like to praise Mr Singh for his brave actions on that night and thank him for his assistance with the inquiry. After a thorough investigation it is now clear he acted in self-defence," he said.
