Morrisons to sue OFT over price-fixing claim
Supermarket chain Morrisons is to take legal action against the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), thisismoney.co.uk reports.
The dispute relates to the OFT's continuing investigation into alleged price-fixing among supermarkets and dairies in 2002-2003. Morrisons says that in September, a statement from the watchdog had wrongly named the supermarket in relation to some aspects of the investigation.
On 13 December, the OFT issued a clarification explaining that its provisional findings were that Morrisons had "colluded in respect of certain liquid milk products in 2002 only", and that the provisional findings did not allege that "Morrisons had been warned by the OFT that its conduct might be anti-competitive".
In its submission to the High Court on 10 January, Morrisons lists more than 50 examples of media coverage of the OFT's statement, and claims that it has suffered damage to its reputation.
