Foreign worker seminars aim to cut through red tape
Business owners who are unsure how to hire foreign workers are the target of a series of training events organised by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).
The regional seminars aim to help firms understand how to employ labour from overseas without falling foul of red tape. They will include a step-by-step guide to the visa application process, an explanation of biometric visas and an introduction to the new points based system (PBS) of immigration.
Uncertainty over the current rules and changes to the laws on migration has prompted concern that employers will choose to avoid labour from overseas. Last week, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) warned that a hike in visa fees accompanying the new PBS system would hit small firms.
The series of two-hour seminars will be held in March and April, in Edinburgh, County Durham, Bradford and Telford. They are organised by the BCC in partnership with UKvisas and the Border and Immigration Agency.
