Flood support and advice for small businesses
After yet another day of flooding around the UK, stricken firms are being reminded of where they can get support and information.
Regions hit this week include Yorkshire, Shrewsbury and Worcester, as well as Northern Ireland. Many firms in these areas are still struggling to recover from last summer's damaging floods.
The Association of British Insurers estimates that the June and July floods caused in excess of £3bn worth of damage, with an estimated 27,000 claims from businesses.
At the time of summer 2007 floods, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) launched a members' flood fund, providing assistance to companies through interest-free loans of up to £5,000.
Yesterday, FSB National Chair John Wright flagged up the fund's continued availability. "We realise just how important it is for a small business affected by these unforeseeable incidents to be up and running as soon as possible, hence our fund," he said.
Members wishing to apply for help should contact their regional FSB office.
Paul Emptage, head of loss adjusting at MORE TH>N parent company Royal & SunAlliance, urged customers to follow flood advice and contact their insurer for help.
"My advice to anyone affected by flooding is to use the skills and services offered by your insurance company," he said.
