Crisp firm bags top award
A small firm that has built its reputation on the transparency of its production processes has been named overall winner at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) Chamber Awards 2007.
Tyrrells Potato Chips Ltd won both the Green Award and the overall Outstanding Business Achievement award at a ceremony in London last night.
The Herefordshire-based company, which was founded in 2002, has become known for growing the potatoes it uses in the manufacture of its crisps.
"This year, Tyrrells simply set a standard for every business, whatever their size, to aspire to," commented BCC president Peter Mileham. "Their record as a business and their particular focus on sustainability set them out amongst very strong competition."
Tyrrells have said that the £50,000 award money will help them grow their own organic oil seed rape, which they hope will provide an alternative to the sunflower oil they currently source from abroad.
